Standard pickup reel

For extremely tough harvesting conditions, John Deere offers the premium pickup reel option for the 639 Windrow Pickup. The premium parts are standard equipment on the 649, and 659 Windrow Pickups.

The premium pickup includes a range of heavy-duty driveline and pickup reel parts. The main wear parts are also Dura Line™ coated.

Pickup tines and pickup tine support

The 6-mm (0.24-in.) thick premium tines will be able to feed the heaviest swaths toward the auger. The larger spring coils of the thick tines are more flexible, resulting in an improved lifetime. The thick tine is more capable of handling the extra force placed on them when harvesting very heavy crops with a large SPFH.

Premium pickup tine support

The pickup tine support on the premium pickup increases the contact surface between the tine and fixation, resulting in longer service life of the tine as the forces are better distributed from the tine into the toothbar.

To handle the extra power, the tooth bars are U-shaped. The U-shape gives extra stability so it can cope with the extra forces placed on it by the thicker tines. The pitmen holding the toothbars were made more stable.

The size of the bearing holding each pitman increased from 40 mm to 52 mm (1.6 in. to 2 in.), an increase of 12 mm (0.47 in.).

The diameter of the hexagon shaft increased by 4 mm (0.16 in.) from 28 mm to 32 mm (1.1 in. to 1.3 in.).

Dura Line long wear strips prevent wear on the outside of the auger flights.

For better durability, there is a welding seam in the middle of the pickup auger on the special formed flight.

In order to handle the intense wear and enormous crop flow in the central part of the machine, the deck plates, auger strippers, and deflector plates in this area are Dura Line coated to provide better wear characteristics and an increase in uptime.

The pickup reel of the 649 and 659 Windrow Pickups is already supported in the middle by ball bearings. With the premium option, the 639 Windrow Pickup (3 m [9.8 ft]) is also supported with extra ball bearing in the middle. This extra support fits in the pickup reel using the same strippers as on the standard machine.

The premium heavy-duty pickup reel option is best suited for:

Producers with a very high annual usage of the pickup

Producers working under difficult conditions like:
- Big swaths
- High yields
- Wet crops
- Uneven fields

Producers always striving for maximum productivity
Producers who are looking for premium features for higher uptime and better performance

NOTE: The premium, heavy-duty pickup reel is only optional on the 639 Windrow Pickup for standard-body 8000 Series SPFH. It is standard on the 639 for wide-body 9000 Series SPFH, 649, and 659 Windrow Pickups.

The standard pickup is best suited for:

Producers or small contractors, with medium or low annual usage of the pickup (e.g. main crop is corn)
Producers using the pickup under normal conditions
- Average or low yields
- Mainly dried crops
